The new braking system from the STS line, has been designed to minimize the width dimension.
This feature is intended to be functional to retractable landing gears, with a high efficiency and adjustable brakes depending on the kinetic energy to restrain, with the lowest possible weight.
The most convenient configuration has appeared the be one used on the airliners to which we are inspired. They have a brake system designed as it was a clutch system, with pistons that generate an axial thrust and pack the discs alternately with friction material and steel.
It is formed by a central body on which are housed six pistons that push down on a pack of two steel disks and a third, covered with friction material on both sides. A system of springs interposed between the disks widens them when the brake is released, preventing the wheel from being braked.
The axle can be integrated into the brake body: the brake and axle are made from a single block of aluminum 7075 Ergal. The advantages are: the ease of assembly and the significant reduction of weight, as well as the inexpensiveness since the axle is already included in the kit price.
A special, more robust steel axle for heavier aircrafts can be supplied on request.
The entire braking system is totally embedded in the rubber profile, which makes it attractive when mounting on retractable landing gear, which usually have very narrow wing housings.
With our system, you gain overall space.
Advantages :
– Extremely Light weight
– Highly performing because the friction material has a larger surface than a classic braking system: therefore, the same braking torque is obtained with half hydraulic pressure
– Compactness: everything is housed in the thickness of the rim, there are no obstructions exposed to the air flow of the aircraft, nor obstructions that interfere on retractable landing gear or in the case of use of wheel fairing.
– Excellent low pressure modulability
– Low component wear
– Flexibility: it is possible to use one or more discs increasing the size of friction surface without spoiling the group construction.
– Excellent performance of the brake with static friction coefficient, or rather with a stationary and cold disc. For the aircrafts it is the classic engine test situation at the waiting point.
– It allows the possible use of two separate braking lines: one specificly dedicated to the parking brake (fixed-point braking) and a second circuit dedicated to normal use. The simultaneous use of the two circuits is particularly suitable for the test fixed point, to aircraft with particularly powerful engines.
-If mounting the skis, using STS technology rims and multidisc braking system, it is no longer necessary to disassemble the brakes and to empty the braking system, only the rim can be replaced.
-In case it is necessary to change the type and size of tire, the operation is very fast and trivial because it is not necessary to change the brake, only the rim shoulders are replaced (if you fit a new tire of the same size) or even the rim if you change size measurement.
– all the 5 “, 6”, 8 “braking units are 6-piston and are available in version with Ø 20mm or Ø 24mm pistons.
– all 5 “, 6″, 8 ” brake units are available with a single brake disc or with two brake discs.
– all braking units are available with an integrated axle made of aluminum 7075 t6 able to support up to 450 kg for 6g. A steel axle version is available for higher loads, to optimize the masses.
– the steel axles are available both with 4 holes or round shape, depending on the need, keeping the standard dimensions Marc-Ingegno. Therefore, the braking system keeps our drilling pattern to be bolted to the landing gear leg, this for compatibility needs with existing projects or in the case of future upgrades.
Fully configurable based on the characteristics of the aircraft:
The development of the braking system has highlighted the need for a brake pump without an external reservoir, which greatly simplifies the installation. Therefore, we have developed a closed-circuit system that improves the functioning of the brake. To simplify the adjustment procedure, we have added a volumetric compensator interposed between the pump and the brake, placed in any available position.
This device allows you to adjust the position of the pedal or brake control lever in a simple way without disassembling anything and without using special tools, simply with two fingers!
– For the maintenance and installation of the system, we have developed a system of check valves that allow air bleeding without uncertainties, and also a pump that simplifies the oil loading operations in the system making it even trivial.
-Our company is available to find the best configuration to optimize the performance of the braking system with maximum lightness.
– Any adapters to the landing gear will be studied specifically for each aircraft.
On the braking body (brake caliper with integrated axle), breaking load tests have been carried out showing that the brake fitted with screws 12.9 breaks under load of 3,560 kg
The central cover, is made of aluminum Ergal, remains fixed and can be customized.
